Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd January 2026 Outline
John’s ministry was to prepare the Nation for the coming Messiah and then present Him to them. John preached against sin and demanded repentance from the people. He gave specific instructions to his audience and various categories of people. Take note of the instructions he gave to different groups of listeners (Luke 3:10-15). “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34).
Reflect again on Luke 3:15-18. In his preaching, he did not pretend to be the expected Messiah. He presented himself as the herald of the Messiah (see John 3:30).
As a preacher of social justice, he had conflicts with the political authorities. He criticized Herod’s marriage to Herodias, the wife of his brother and reprimanded him of all other evils he was doing (Luke 3:19-20) and this landed him in prison. What should be our reactions to threats/intimidations that come to us on account of confronting the political authorities with the gospel? Read Acts 4:29; Acts 5:39. Fear and cowardice has restrained us from calling the wicked rulers of our States and Nations to account!
Prayer of Faith
Isaiah 41:10

Great is Thy faithfulness
1. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Closing Prayer
Pray for Christians who are going through persecution or imprisoned for their stand in the gospel. Pray also for the healing of our land and total revival using 2 Chronicles 7:14.
